I have tried quite a few of the kabob and gyro trucks that have popped up in the area recently but had not yet tried Tasty Kabob. Tasty Kabob is one of the, if not the, largest food truck company in the area. They have an astounding five trucks and two carts. The bright green trucks roam DC while the carts are stationary in Arlington. With the unseasonably mild weather we have been having, I thought it was a good time to get out and try a new food truck and Tasty Kabob was calling my name.
Tasty Kabob has chicken and lamb offerings everyday and on Wednesdays they offer a meatball kabob for $9. Both chicken and lamb can come over rice with a salad and a side ($9), over salad with a side ($9), or on a pita gyro style ($7). There is also a vegetarian option of vegetables with rice for $7. The sides they were offering the day I went were chickpeas, mixed vegetables and spinach. Chicken is also offered with mushrooms, rice and a side on Fridays only for $9. The truck also has a variety of drink offerings.
The day I went I got the lamb over rice with chickpeas as my side. The lamb comes with two sauces, a hot sauce and a tzatziki like sauce. You can get the hot sauce medium or hot and I went with medium. The lamb was cooked very well and the rice was nice and fluffy. The medium sauce was spicy but not overly and gave a nice extra flavor when mixed with the tzatziki. The chickpeas were nice and tender and came in a flavorful sauce. Some of the sauces got in with it too giving them a nice kick. There was just enough food to keep me satisfied for the day and not overly full.
Overall I really enjoyed the food from Tasty Kabob and will definitely go back to try the chicken. You can find out if they are going to be near you by checking out their Twitter or Facebook page.
