One of my favorite places to eat near my apartment in Arlington is Kabob Palace, a 24-hour kabob place that makes amazing food. I always say that if they delivered I would eat there at least once a week. So one day when I was walking near their restaurant to get to the CVS, I noticed a food truck-like vehicle parked behind the store. I thought, well either they are getting into the catering business or the food truck business. To my delight it was the food truck business. So one day when they were near my office I decided to get my Kabob Palace kick at work.
One thing different from going to the restaurant is the menu. The food truck menu is more sauce-based dishes as they make the food at the restaurant and keep it warm on the truck. Because of this, what I normally get, the half chicken half lamb kabob was not available. But my favorite side, their chick peas, was available so that made me happy. Each day the truck features at least two different meat dishes, at least one vegetable special, and every day you can get chickpeas, spinach with potato, or chicken biryama. Each special comes with rice, a vegetable, flat bread, and side salad. I went on a Wednesday where the meat specials were lamb with spinach, lamb with lentils, and meatball, and the vegetable special was eggplant with potato. I went with the lamb with lentils with chickpeas as the vegetable. With tax, it came to $10.
The lamb with lentils was served in the main portion of the container with the chickpeas served over rice and the salad in the smaller compartments. The chickpeas were delicious as always. I really wish I knew what they did to those chickpeas but I could eat those every day. The lamb and lentils were in a spicy yellow sauce. I like spicy food, but if you do not I may stay away from this dish. One piece of the lamb was kind of tough, but the rest was nice and tender. The bread was delicious and soaked up the spicy sauce nicely.
Overall I really enjoyed the Kabob Palace food truck. It was nice to try something different from what I normally get when I visit the restaurant and still have the yummy chickpeas. I will definitely go back on a Monday or Thursday to try the curry chicken or any day to just get the chickpeas. The service was fast and the staff was nice and answered any questions anyone in line had. Find out when the truck is going to be near you by going on Twitter or visit the restaurant in the Crystal City neighborhood in Arlington.
