“Should I create a signature drink for my wedding reception?” This is a question I am asked quite often by brides who are planning their wedding; my answer, simply put, is “yes, most definitely.” Signature drinks are the most creative and customizable additions to any wedding! Not only do signature cocktails highlight the bride and groom, they can also save lots of time, energy and money!
Express yourself! Every bride and groom shares something special amongst themselves. Whether it’s a favorite color, song or place, there is something that differentiates you from other couples. For example, I helped a newlywed couple create a signature cocktail based on the color scheme for their wedding, purple and silver, and the bride and groom’s favorite bird, hawk (which was also a part of the groom’s last name “Hawkins”). Thus, the “Purple Hawk” was born!
Having a signature drink is also a great way to have an inexpensive open bar! Most signature cocktails do not have a lot of ingredients; therefore, you would only be purchasing what’s necessary to create your drink! This will also save time in planning for a full bar, to provide your guests with multiple drink options.
“Wait, but what if my signature drink is too sweet or too strong?” is typically the follow up question to the original one. Again, my answer is “Not a problem!” Signatures can always be spiced up by offering “his and hers” cocktails, instead of just one drink. This will give the bride and groom leave way to include two signature drinks! Usually, the bride creates a drink that is decorative and fruity for the ladies and the groom creates one that is a bit manlier for the guys.
Incorporating a signature cocktail is a great way to customize your wedding. Even if you are offering a full bar, having a signature drink is always a great way to share your love story through a cocktail!
