Elements of Style – Swimsuits

the-dc-ladies-fashion-elements-of-style-swimsuitsSummer is right around the corner and it is time to starting thinking about the perfect swimsuit. Every style is available and each collection has its own interpretation of the season’s hottest designs. Whether you want to show a lot of skin or a little it is possible to do both in style. My personal favorites this year are the monokinis, high-waisted bikinis and the string bikini.

There are certain elements to keep in mind when shopping for the perfect suit; style, design and fit. Style meaning color, print or details of the suit. Design meaning the actual shape of the suit. What does it accentuate? What does it cover or not cover. Fit speaks to how it tailors to your body.

Solid colored suits are classic and colors like red or bright yellow are bold. You can also mix and match solid tops and bottoms to create a new suit. Printed suits are wild and flirty and always make a statement. Animal prints, polka dots and stripes are all fun! Details like embellishments and hardware are very cool and can spice up any suit. Metalware on suits can bring an edgy feel to a feminine piece. While lace embellishment is super girly and chic.

Also innovative shapes and unique designs are making a splash! Cutouts and exotic fits are worth experimenting with. Tying at the neck, exposing a hip or a one piece with boy shorts instead of a traditional bottom are all options.

Like with everything in your wardrobe fit is vital when it comes to swimsuits. Fit is extremely important to keep in mind because sizes vary from collection to collection; try everything on and keep trying until you get the perfect fit. If you are shopping online purchase a suit from a company with free returns and keep trying until the fit is flawless.

If you find a suit that embodies these three elements, purchase it and don’t look back! The perfect swimsuit is priceless. These are some of my favorite designs for this season.

All of the suits are by D’Milikah.
