Yummy…Yum Food truck definitely has one of the most unique food truck names in the DC area. The brightly decorated truck specializes in Persian and Greek foods. For the Persian food they serve kebab platters and sandwiches. There are three protein options for the kebab dishes and the protein styles can be combined in the platters. The platters come with marinated tomatoes and cucumbers, rice, and a garden salad. You have a choice of chicken breast, veal, lamb, chicken and veal, chicken and lamb, or lamb and veal. The sandwiches come on pita bread and there are three choices, one for each protein.
For the Greek food, they offer rice platters, salad platters, and sandwiches. You can get the combo rice platter which comes with chicken and gyro (lamb) meat over rice with a Greek side salad or the gyro rice platter with gyro meat over rice with a Greek side salad. The salad plates also come with the chicken and gyro meat combo or just gyro meat over a Greek salad. Like the Persian options, the Greek sandwiches come on pita bread with your choice of gyro meat or the chicken and gyro meat combo.
I opted for the combo chicken and gyro meat rice platter topped with tzatziki (a typical Greek sauce made with yogurt, cucumbers, and garlic) and hot sauces and plenty of feta cheese. Service was very fast and friendly and I was back to my office with some delicious smelling food in no time. First off, you get a lot of food for the price. For just under $10 I had a large amount of food. There was plenty of meat, rice, and salad for the cost. The salad was fresh and contained lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, radishes, green olives, a grape leaf, and a pickled pepperoncini pepper. It was topped with tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. It gave a nice cooling and textural element compared to the meat and rice. The chicken was nicely flavored and moist. Sometimes when you order grilled chicken from a food truck it can be dry and chewy but this was anything but. There was also a nice smoky flavor from the grill on the chicken. The gyro meat was also very flavorful and tender. The rice was perfectly cooked and not soggy even with the meat and sauces sitting on top. The tzatziki had a great garlic flavor and the hot sauce added just enough heat to add flavor without being overpowering.
Overall, I think Yummy…Yum food truck has some of the best tasting gyro meat out there and it is a great value. If I had not been so hungry, I definitely could have gotten two meals out of the platter. Look for them on Twitter (@YummyYum_Food) to find out when they will be near you.
