When you’re living in a smaller space, storage can be hard to come by. Especially in the kitchen. I’ve lived in an apartment with roommates, two different studios by myself and currently, a one bedroom. One solution I’ve found to be quite helpful is to create your own bar!
It’s a stylish solution to store glassware, vases, trays, alcohol (or pretty bottles of Pellegrino if you’d rather drink that) and leaves you more space in your kitchen cabinets for cooking and baking essentials. Choosing a ‘bar’ can be a fun way to personalize a piece of furniture to your own style. I currently use folding bookshelves, but you can use just about anything to create a bar! A rolling cart, a cabinet, bookshelf, small table, and places like Target have tons of great options for true bar carts! Once you’ve established your base, it’s time to find the most aesthetically pleasing storage solutions and style with accessories.
Using trays is one of my favorite tricks- they instantly give a more polished, styled look to store your glassware, wine, or other spirits. I can’t tell you how much cabinet space I’ve saved by moving all of my wine, champagne, martini and rocks glasses over to the bar area. And it’s a great focal piece in the apartment. Remember, when styled and organized, storage doesn’t have to be tucked away! West Elm and CB2 are always my favorite go-to spots for great trays. In addition to trays, I love using tall vases to add height to the bar and they make great storage. From wine corks, to fun stainless steel straws, and bottle openers, you can create stylish storage in tall vases with larger openings. Target and HomeGoods always have a wonderful selection of vases, and thrift stores are a great option for finding unique vases at a great price point!
